This year the 2011 Child Cancer Foundation Appeal will run throughout March, with a street collection on Friday 25. The Foundation wants to raise $1 million during Appeal Month to sup- port children with cancer and their families. It s easy to help and just an hour or two spent collecting can make a real difference. Sign up with friends or take ownership of a site with your local club. Portfolios given to members Elected members of the Manu- rewa Local Board have divvied up 11 portfolios to improve interac- tion with the community and the Auckland Council. Chairman Daniel Newman takes the governance portfolio along with planning and policy. Events, community and social wellbeing, and parks and reserves go to Angela Dalton. Manurewa MP and board member George Hawkins is in charge of arts and culture, and takes on the trans- port and economic portfolio too. Colleen Brown is portfolio leader for Civil Defence and emergency management, and for the natural environment. The town centres and street- scapes portfolio goes to Toa Greening. Michael Bailey takes on libraries and recreation. Associate portfolio responsibili- ties have been allocated among board members. Elected members have also been appointed to outside organis- ations within Manurewa. Mr Newman will represent the board on the liaison group for the Auckland regional women s prison at Wiri. Ms Brown goes on to the aircraft noise community con- sultative group and Mr Bailey to Manurewa health promoting schools. Ms Dalton is appointed to the Clendon community action group on youth and drugs, and to the community liaison committee for the Whakatakapokai care and protection residence in Weymouth. The Korowai Manaaki youth justice residence in Kiwi Tamaki Rd will have Angela Cunningham-Merino as the board s representative.
