Hundreds wing way to anniversary By HINERANGI VAIMOSO Centenary: Some of the hundreds of people who turned out on Sunday to mark the 100th anniversary of the Walsh brothers' first flight at Glenora Park in Takanini. A century has passed since Leo and Vivian Walsh made New Zealand aviation history but it was fresh in the minds of the crowd at Glenora Park in Takanini on Sunday. Hundreds of people gath- ered at the Takanini School Rd site to mark the 100th anniversary of the first con- trolled and recognised flight in New Zealand. The milestone by the brothers paved the way for Kiwi aviation. Guests included Wing Commander Gordon Ragg and captain Bryan Wyness of the International Pilots Guild. Also there were Air Commodore Gavin Howse of the New Zealand Air Force and retired Air Marshall Sir Richard Bolt, the son of George Bolt who played a leading role in the Walsh brothers flying school.
