Auckland Transport is planning an awareness campaign next month for the single-ticket system which would allow access on buses, trains and fer- ries. The launch is planned for mid-March. The card will be avail- able initially on NZ Bus services which include Waka Pacific, Metrolink, Link, North Star and Go West buses and Hop Card has been tipped as the likely name for the system. The Campaign For Better Transport has launched a naming forum on its website for the card and so far Mako has 15 votes, Waka Card has three and Trip Snap- per has one. The concept for the single card system is part of the Auckland Integrated Fares System and the second stage will be introduced via a tour- ist product for the Rugby World Cup in September. Supercity mayor Len Brown says the progress is a significant step towards improving pub- lic transport in Auckland and making it easier for locals and visitors to move around the city. It s vital that our buses, ferries and trains are well linked if our public transport system is to be as effective as it needs to be. Auckland Transport external communications manager Sharon Hunter says the card will have a capital cost of $6.4 million and a marketing campaign will cost $1m. This includes cus- tomer service training, street ambassadors, web development, retail sell- in and point of sale, advertising and market- ing collateral. We are spending what is required to ensure strong levels of awareness, understanding and take- up of the product. A participation agree- ment has been sign- ed between Auckland Transport, NZ Bus and Snapper Services, which operates a ticketing sys- tem in Wellington. See www.maxx.co.nz for integrated ticketing updates.
