Photo: SHANE WENZLICK By MELISSA KINEALY Rob Warner admits there's some- thing he can't stop doing -- he's addicted to volunteering. The self-confessed volunteer- aholic'' spends his spare time helping Hospice South Auckland and it reckons it needs more people like him. Once a month Rob gets behind the drinks and food trolley at the inpatient unit at Hospice South Auckland's Totara Lodge and spends a couple of hours taking meals to guests. It's really just going around with a smile on your face. Having been involved for the last three years, I have seen first hand the tremendous care and support provided to those who are sick and in need of such care at such a vital and stressful time for the family and the person in need,'' he says. He also helps with the hospice remembrance trees Christmas fundraiser and says it's easy to be a volunteer. By day he's a travel agent in Papakura -- his workplace supports Hospice South Auckland and his own volunteering is an extension of that. The hardest decision is to make the decision to give up your time.'' Hospice South Auckland has a shortage of volunteers. Funding and marketing man- ager Gavin Ring says volunteers are important to household services where they welcome visitors, help with meal deliveries to patients, make beds and more. The role of a volunteer is varied and offers immense personal sat- isfaction, Mr Ring says. New volunteers train with experienced staff before they start regular duties. Mr Warner says people thinking about helping should know it's easy to plan their time around volunteering. Call Chris Keeling on 640-0219 for more information about volunteering.
