Christmas dinner draws large crowd Dig in: Crowds turned out for the South Auckland Christian Foodbank Christmas dinner. Photo: PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALEXANDRA More than 400 people turned out for an early Christmas dinner last week. South Auckland Christian Foodbank joined with the Manukau Baptist Church and Papatoetoe Adolescent Christian Trust to host the foodbank's annual Christmas dinner. Families from all over south Auckland attended. Many are regulars at the foodbank's community din- ners or are receiving budget- ing assistance from its part- ner organisations. The dinner was staffed by a team of foodbank volunteers and others from the com- munity including people from budgeting offices, WINZ, Housing New Zealand and churches. Garlic bread, chicken, ham with salsa, potato, kumara, pumpkin and carrots were on the menu with sticky date pudding, custard, fruit salad and icecream for dessert. The City Mission, Sal- vation Army and Papatoetoe Community Church all donated Christmas gifts that were given out to all the chil- dren.
