The section between Lambie Drive and Davies Ave that crosses the new motorway was reopened last Saturday. The Cavendish-Puhinui interchange link road and westbound onramp is due to open on January 5. Traffic detours will be in place between January 5 and 10 for road resurfacing at intersections on Lambie Drive and on Great South Rd around the Manukau northbound offramp. Traffic webcams Drivers using the southwestern motorway extension now have live traffic webcams to help them plan their trips. The New Zealand Transport Agency has installed 14 web cameras along SH20, including nine between Mangere and Manukau. Auckland state highways manager Tommy Parker says the cameras will help drivers avoid traffic jams and have smoother, safer trips. The webcams update images of traffic on SH20 every 60 seconds. They are sited at Rimu Rd, Crawford Ave, Coronation Rd, Puhinui Rd, Nesdale Rd, Plunket Ave, Lambie Drive, Barrow- cliffe Place and Great South Rd. Kids enjoy a wintry Xmas blast By JESSIE COLQUHOUN White out: Papatoetoe North School student Conrad Freese plays in the foam snow delivered to his school. Photos: SIMON WATTS Snow fun: Papatoetoe North School students get covered in the white stuff. Kids at Papatoetoe North School got their very own white Christmas this week. Their playground and the kids were sprayed with fake snow by a special effects com- pany. The Christmas White Out was initiated by special effects expert and Big Buddy mentor Jason Durey. Big Buddy matches father- less boys with mentors -- ordi- nary men who spend a few hours a week with them. Mr Durey gave snow to his children and little buddies' schools and was inspired to spread the excitement to eight other low decile schools, including Papatoetoe North. I decided to do something for kids who don't necessarily have a lot to cheer about at Christmas,'' he says. Mr Durey runs a special effects company and knows all about the non-toxic, biodegradable foam snow which was sprayed while the children are in class. It takes about 15 minutes to apply. Undisturbed it can last for up to six hours but with kids playing in it I give it 30 minutes max.''
