Mangere Bridge Sc- outs need help raising $7000 to allow the troop of seven boys to attend the 2010-11 jamboree in Hamilton from Decem- ber 29 to January 6. They ll join 4000 other Scouts from all over New Zealand for 10 days of fun and activities. Group leader David Horne says the troop has been busy selling pizzas, chocolate bars and run- ning sausage sizzles and have raised around $2000 so far. A key part of the experience for Scouts is learning how to raise their own funds to pay for the jamboree. But there is still a way to go to meet the target to get the troup to the jamboree so any help would be greatly appreci- ated. Mr Horne says some of the money will go towards the hiring and transportation of equip- ment to Hamilton. In 2007 the group s Scout hall was destroyed by arsonists and in the blaze they lost their premises, all of their equipment and around nine decades of history and memories. But Mr Horne says they expect construction of a new hall to begin next year once final funding is secured. The hall will be available for use by the wider com- munity, he says. We would also appreciate any support that is available to help toward getting our Scouts and leaders down to Hamilton for the jam- boree, Mr Horne says. Call Scout leader Gina Nowell on 027-653-4129 or email smith.nowell@ xtra.co.nz for more infor- mation on how you can help the Mangere Bridge Scouts. Any groups interested in using the new new Mangere Bridge Scout hall after it is built can contact the Mangere Bridge Scout Group or email mangerebridge firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
