So Manukau Institute of Technology has launched the Centre for Studies in Multiple Pathways to promote understanding about dis- engagement and in- crease student partici- pation. It aims to align the needs of students and employers through seminars, conferences and international sympo- siums. Centre director Stuart Middleton says multiple pathways means cre- ating individual and flex- ible learning pathways for students which are academic and vocational. MIT's School of Secondary-Tertiary Studies is an example of this type of programme and mixes high school with trades-based learn- ing.
