For the past 12 months the independent crime-fighting organis- ation has provided a phone service that allows people to provide infor- mation on crime anony- mously. It has come out in sup- port of a two-week meth- amphetamine awareness campaign being run jointly by New Zealand and Australian police. Chief executive Lou Gardiner is urging any- one who knows about any clandestine metham- phetamine manufacture to call Crimestoppers if they don't feel comfort- able contacting police directly. Telltale signs include chemical smells, exhaust fans running at odd times, people behaving secretively, expensive surveillance gear and rubbish containing lots of cold medication pack- aging. Call 0800-555-111 or use the online message form at www.crimestop pers-nz.org to provide information anonymous- ly. The Crimestoppers website also has a link to more information on how to identify a clandestine methamphetamine lab- oratory.
